When we received a wedding invite from our dear friends to celebrate their special day in Mexico City; we thought, wow! this is going to be one spectacular experience. It was even better than that.

Initially when planning this trip, I was a bit lost. This was a city I really didn't know too much about other than the fact we have four great friends from there. They always spoke highly of their home, but I never grasped how great it was.

The plan was to fly into Mexico City Friday night and enjoy the morning in the city prior to the ceremony, then hop on a plane Sunday for a more leisure vacation. After landing in Mexico City, my senses awoke and I gained a second wind. We went to a late dinner at L'Unica near our hotel, located in Polanco.

To my amazement, and I can safely say for all of my meals, these were some of the greatest restaurants I have ever eaten at. I started off with a jalapeno margarita and some tacos with mole sauce. This will be a trend: that and of course my favorite Chilaquiles with steak in verde (green) sauce.

Our hotel was recommended by the bride, so we knew it would be fabulous. It was a very shabby chic boutique hotel in a very exclusive neighborhood, walking distance from all of the high-end stores a girl can dream of. Los Alcobas was the name of the hotel and it is also part of SPG if you are looking to earn some points on your trip. Also located nearby is the W Mexico City and the Intercontinental.

For the privacy of the Bride & Groom I am going to zoom past the details of the wedding day. It was absolutely lovely and we were so grateful to be invited to celebrate their special day. Just two photos from the day I would like to share, because the church was breathtaking.

Parroquia Agustiniana Santa Teresita de Nino is the name of the church. The church interior was lined with these extraordinary flowers. The aroma awoke the senses as soon as you entered. I was in awe of the beauty.

The morning after the wedding we headed off to the airport and headed towards Punta Mita, where we would spend the next 7 days.

Next Stop: Punta Mita

Punta Mita is located 40 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, mainly because of the scattered speed bumps to and from. It's much more relaxed and exclusive than Puerto Vallarta with private resorts located on the ocean with private beaches and infinity pools overlooking. We stayed at the W Hotel Punta de Mita and had a lovely time. The hotel is only 17 months old, so it is well maintained with all updated amenities.

The hotel offers a variety of food options and the town of Punta Mita is only 10 minutes away and the restaurants are worth the trip.

Spice Market is a main restaurant attached to the hotel as well as a Ceviche Bar on a truck, Pool Bar and a restaurant located inside/outside, with a hotel bar in the "Living Room." Make sure to say hi to our favorite bartender, Kristina, we made sure to see her every night! ( Room service is also available 24/7. )

Every Saturday there is a party poolside with different themes, and often a DJ poolside for your enjoyment. During our stay there was a Veuve Clicquot Fiesta with all the Bubbles one can enjoy!

There are two fire pits located next to the pool where dinner is served with live music at least once a week. We had the opportunity of enjoying this on our last night and Jonathan was great!

Cabanas are available poolside and ocean side as well as luxury cabanas on the beach to the side of pool with hammocks, television, outdoor showers, and private bathroom. We had the opportunity to have this all week and our amigos Jose, Tristan, and Diego ensured we had the greatest time with top of the line service. During our stay we were able to see the whales migrating. The babies were learning to breach and playing with their mothers; it was quite the sight to see and frankly quite fantastic.

Yoga is provided every morning overlooking the ocean on top of this pier that looks over the resort. It is a great place for health, 24 hour gym and Spa available. I was able to enjoy a treatment during my stay and it was very relaxing with a steam room to follow.

On the beach, there are sea kayaks, a catamaran and various water activities for guests to enjoy. If you have children there is day care-camp complimentary as well. If you don't want to leave your pooch at home, well you are in luck, there were several dogs at the hotel during our stay and welcome at the hotel.

Fun Day Trips:

Sayulita: It is famous for the beaches and surfing waves. Fun surfing town with beautiful beaches, shopping, and restaurants. Worth the 20 minute drive from the resorts.

Isles Mauritas: A group of islands off the coast of Punta Mita. The best way to get there is via boat from downtown Punta Mita. You can snorkel and check out this beautiful spot. We were told they used to practice machinery and bombing in the center, but now because of the wildlife and mating habits it is no longer allowed.

Restaurants to try in Punta Mita : Below is a photo of my coconut shrimp from Blue Shrimp.

Blue Shrimp: Fun atmosphere, located on the beach. Come for dinner or enjoy a margarita prior to dinner (they make your drink to your liking...pouring tequila at the table.) I enjoyed the Coconut Shrimp and it was amazing! I am still craving a second course of this dish.
Casa Theresa: Romantic Italian restaurant, seating in a private courtyard. I highly recommend dining here. The Chicken Parmigiana & Lasagna are classics; however they change the menu regularly. It is owned by a husband and wife who will come to your table and introduce themselves. This is a place you come to once and will return every visit back to Punta de Mita. They also have a great wine list: We were able to order our favorite Caymus at a very reasonable price.
Tuna Blanca: Enjoy a table on the beach. They have a great option of a three course dining menu, and everything on the menu is delicious. The tuna is out of this world. I ordered the Tuna, lightly seared, as rare as can be: It was, yet the tuna was still warm--I'm still trying to replicate this dish at home.
Si Senor: This is part of Blue Shrimp & Rosa Mexicana. All located on the water- atmosphere is open and beachy.

Hotels recommended in Punta Mita: Four Seasons Punta Mita, St. Regis Punta Mita, & W Punta de Mita. If you are traveling with a larger group of friends or family you may want to look into renting a house privately. There is also the option to book the larger "house suites" from the W Hotel as well and then you are part of the hotel but have more privacy.

As I mentioned earlier, we were able to watch the whales breach from the beach. The town also offers Whale Watching tours if you would like a closer view. When we were in Cabo a few Februarys ago, we also were able to witness this migratory pattern. The whales migrate down towards Cabo and Punta Mita the beginning of January then return back north by March. So if this is something that interests you, February may be the best time to plan your trip. You will notice certain weeks are more expensive, so play around with dates to find the best deal.

If you are an East Coaster and worried about heading to the West Coast of Mexico, FEAR NOT! Its a direct flight from New York, which makes this trip all the more appealing.

This was the view as I ran towards the beach every morning.

NYC, Volume 1

NYC is one of the most difficult cities to write about. It is one of my favorites, and no matter how much I say about it, it will never feel like I’m giving it the respect it deserves. Anything can happen in New York on any given day.

I’m a firm believer in location, location, location— Want to go to the Hamptons for the weekend? Head to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, or the Cape? Take the train to Rhode Island-shoot over to Block Island. Well of course you do, because who doesn’t in the summer. Just like all the other New Yorkers, they will be near the ocean for the summer weekends.

Since NYC is a very large animal to tackle in one single blog, I will continue to update with new restaurant findings & new hotels, as I tend to visit often.

To simplify this, I will break down some of my favorite things to do in a few of the neighborhoods in Manhattan.

En Route to Airport in Meatpacking District

Meatpacking District: located on the far west side of Manhattan, offering chic hotels, restaurants, and fabulous shopping. This may be my favorite spot: at least in the summer, where I can get my rooftop-pool scene in!

A few favorite Meatpacking Hotels:

Gansevoort Meatpacking: This is my favorite hotel, especially in the summer. located across the street from SoHo House, in the prime location of the Meatpacking District. Enjoy the rooftop pool in the summer. Steps away from some of the greatest restaurants. Make sure to play some pool in the lobby!

Dream Downtown: Roof-top Lounge with club overlooking the skyline with an outdoor pool (private cabanas available) *Side note, Scott proposed to me on the rooftop-with of course Champagne and Strawberries! Whether you are into the party scene or not, do grab a cocktail at PH-D, the rooftop club. <You will have a gorgeous view of the Hudson River and the Empire State Building.>

The Standard, High Line New York: Ever heard of the Boom Boom Room, Well here you go- The Top of the Standard is at the Standard. (obviously) If dressed appropriately, you should grab a cocktail here even if you are not staying.

*While in the Meatpacking District, don't forget to get your shopping on. This might be my favorite spot to shop, think: DVF, Alice & Olivia, Intermix...etc

SoHo: Located in Lower Manhattan: home to artist's lofts and many galleries. This is definitely one of the more artsy neighborhoods. There will also be boutique-type shopping.

Soho Grand Hotel: This hotel is not only Dog Friendly- but they allow you to bring your pups to the lobby restaurant to dine with you!
The James New York: Chic upscale hotel a rooftop pool.

Blue Ribbon Sushi: One of my favorite Sushi Restaurants in general, frequented the one in Vegas multiple times on my last stint there!

The Dutch: Lively Spot. American Fare.
Balthazar: Serves traditional bistro fare
Blue Ribbon Brasserie (not to be confused with sushi, open *4pm-4am)

SOHO shopping: Some more of the best shopping & galleries in the city.

Favorite Midtown & Central Park Area Hotels: There are a million hotels to choose, these are some I enjoy. Keep in mind Midtown is heavily touristy: think- Time Square, Grant Park, Broadway. If you are looking to see a show, this might be the neighborhood you should stay in, but otherwise it might be too congested.

Dream Midtown: Steps away from Central Park.
Intercontinental: 44th and 8th, I generally always stay here, because Scott is Spire Elite Status with them so we generally get free upgrades... and free mini bar! Located just blocks from Time Square & Broadway for all your theater needs.
The Surrey: Located in the Upper East Side, less than a block from Central Park.
Andaz 5th Avenue: Overlooking the New York Public Library and Bryant Park.
WestHouse Hotel New York: Luxury Hotel, 10 blocks from Central Park.
The Plaza: The most famous resident: Eloise! Yes, this is the hotel. Come here for afternoon tea as well as other notable dining experiences. This is right on the corner of Central Park with a castle-like feel. French Rooms and old elegance.
Baccarat Hotel: Upscale Midtown hotel opposite from the Museum of Modern Art.

STK, Steak, chic-atmosphere
Sushi of Gari, Get the Chef's Choice if you are feeling daring

Sky's the Limit here in NYC. What should you do? Well, there is nothing you can't do or see. NYC has it all. Here are a few things to do if this is your first time.

What to do: *There are a million things to do and time of year makes a difference but here are some of the obvious attractions.

Rockefeller Center *Especially in December

*Central Park is one of my favorite spots. Anything can and does occur in NYC, but the ultimate people watching is in the park.

When in Central Park grab an appetizer and a drink at the Loeb Boathouse. *If you watched Sex and the City, this is where she and Mr. Big fell into the water.

Red Frog Beach: Bocas del Toro, Panama

If you are an active traveler looking for an adventure with nature, Bocas del Toro in Panama might be your spot. It's known for world class surfing just south of Costa Rica in the rainforest. (We were there when they were filming an East Coast professional!)

As long as you aren't afraid of getting a little wet-this is a great part of the world (It is in the rainforest.) Wildlife, Surfing, Swimming, Fishing, and Zip-Lining: this is an adventurists dream... also perhaps a photographers.

We spent our Christmas at the Red Frog Beach Resort and rented a house overlooking the ocean, with a private pool, and hired a chef. This might seem over the top, but it actually wasn't . It was part of the reason for choosing it. The cost of renting a house for the week ended up being less expensive than staying at a 4 star hotel on a different caribbean island.

While saying that, if you are looking to go on a surfing trip and want to keep accommodations to a minimum--I suggest the Red Frog Bungalows. (They have surfing packages as well.) It's fairly easy to get to as well. We flew into Panama City the night before and ventured out in the city then took a skipper plane up to Bocas del Toro.

Breakfast at the Red Frog Beach Resort was included and enjoyed on the beach at the Punta Lava Bar. To get around the Island, we opted for some golf carts.

Now, I've come to be "little-miss-Steve Irwin".. ok maybe not that good, but I am fairly lucky at spotting wildlife. On the way to breakfast, I heard rustling in the bushes to my left.. so I pulled over to find monkeys peeling and eating bananas.

You would think they would've scattered, but perhaps realized I was not a threat. One of the monkeys actually enjoyed my company and decided to put on a show. I watched as he peeled the bananas and ate his breakfast.

Next, which might be even more crazy. Finding a sloth in a tree! Now, this might be more impressive, because unlike monkeys--they do not rustle the leaves, they barely move. I was driving slowly on my way to the beach after lunch. I kept looking up in the trees hoping to find wildlife-to my enjoyment, I did just that. A Sloth was sunning himself on the top of the tree.

Ok... So when I said the last finding was impressive. This one might take the cake.. to the extent the locals said they never see the sloths come this close. I didn't want him to touch me, because I didn't want my germs to hurt him (or vice versa) but he kept grabbing towards my camera, attempting to take my Red Sox hat off my head.

Now, if this were a wildlife tour, you would say "yeah, I get it ... pretty cool," except it wasn't a tour, this was just walking around the island. If you are like me and want to find sloths, take photos, and really embrace the island-then you too will find Red Frog amazing. Believe me, it is worth it.

The resort is called Red Frog for a reason; there are tiny red frogs in the rainforest (do not touch, some might be poisonous, also it's not nice.) they are microscopic. Don't let my photo fool you, I had my legitimate camera with me on this trip, and I was very quiet not to disturb him. They are beautiful frogs with vibrant color.

Looking for more activities? Well perfect, because besides fishing, surfing, and swimming there is zip-lining, right on the island. They pick you up right in the lobby and drive on up into the heart of the rainforest. My brave hubby even did this, which proves how safe it is. He is scared to death of heights. He was the champ of the day for doing this--knowing my sister and I were dying to do it.

A few day trips I suggest:

Starfish Beach: Whether you are staying at Red Frog Beach or another resort you can request boat charters from the taxi drivers. (yes, the taxi's I'm referring to are all boat taxis.. they are the same you would take to town.)

Starfish beach was the one excursion I was really looking forward to. It was worth it. We hired a taxi to take us to Starfish Beach, then snorkel on the way back, and finished by leisurely drinking at the Blue Coconut.

Starfish beach is named after all of the starfish found here. You will dock your boat right on the beach then walk into the clear waters to find them. It is not ok to touch the starfish which is why I am not showing them on this blog.

Fishing Expedition: The boys went fishing, do expect "old-school" fishing though, they were hand reeling in the line. Either way they had a great time, minus a mini rainstorm!

Blue Coconut: This spot is great and I highly recommend. It's a bar and restaurant in the middle of the water between Red Frog Beach and town. Great menu and also fun spot to hang out in the sun. There is snorkeling gear as well as hammocks off the docks.

The Town of Bocos: Fun restaurants and some shops. We actually played "Secret Santa" when in town. We picked names and had a budget on what to spend on our gifts, *only able to shop from the stores in town. A few nights out of the week we opted to head to town for dinner instead of our in house chef. We had a great time.

For people looking for a nightlife there are definitely some spots to check out. Right off of the docks in town there is a spot called, Aqua Lounge, this is spot to go to at night. There is a DJ, multiple bars, swings into the water: it's the epitome of a club in the islands.

Surfing: I highly recommend going to the beach at Red Frog and asking for Scott, he's the best. The Red Frog Bungalows is the go-to spot for surfers.

If you are looking for a new part of the world to check out and love to be active, Boca del Toros is the spot. For a bit of luxury: stay at Red Frog Resort, but if you would like more of a rustic stay then definitely stay at Red Frog Bungalows.

On our last day we flew back to Panama City. We were able to see the Panama Canal which is pretty fascinating then found a restaurant with a pool to enjoy a full day of sun! Come back soon to see my quick trip in Panama City!

Hidden Gem: The Moy House

In Ireland, one of the top places to visit is Co. Clare, because of the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. The Cliffs of Moher might be the most frightening (heights) and beautiful, natural phenomenon and worth the hype! Wear comfortable shoes and carry a light-weight jacket in case it's breezy.

On a sunny day, plan on visiting in the afternoon when the sun hits the rocks. When you choose to visit, you should plan on staying at the Moy House in Lahinch (Lehinch.)

Lahinch is a surfing town: yes a surfing town in Ireland! Some of the greatest surfers in the world come to Lahinch when a storm is brewing. I am not one of those "Great Surfers," although I did test my fate and suited up. Lahinch Surf School is located right at the beach, in case, you too want to give it a try. It's actually a great place to learn to surf, minus storms, because it's a beach break with long waves.

Don't let me fool you, I'm not 100% Tough (close though,) we stopped in at Flanagan's Bar for some liquid courage. This is a great pub and I recommend visiting even if you aren't planning on surfing. Further up the road, there is a shop to buy souvenirs and Aran Sweaters. Another spot is O'Looneys Bar & Restaurant, which is the same owner as the Moy House and overlooks the ocean in town.

Lahinch is also home to a top 5 renowned Golf Course: The Lahinch Golf Course that overlooks Lahinch Beach. It's a quaint town, with shops, ice cream, and pubs, located just 15 minutes from the Cliffs of Moher. I recommend visiting.

The Moy House is a 9 bedroom, Georgian, Country House Hotel overlooking the ocean with unobstructed views. World-class chef and the friendliest staff you can find: it's a home away from home.

Once you stay here, you will not want to stay anywhere else. If you are looking for a luxurious treat, stay in the Well-Suite: fireplace in room as well as a sitting room with private access to the lawn and ocean.

After dinner, grab a glass of wine and head down to the beach to watch the sunset. It's absolutely breathtaking, especially if you are lucky enough to catch a clear night. Speaking of lucky, when I stayed here two years ago, the water was calm enough to see the dolphins in the morning!

I cannot express enough how lovely the Moy House is- if you are looking for a romantic getaway this is your spot. Shannon Airport is under an hour away, so flying from the East Coast is a very easy International trip. Our next stay will be a long weekend spent here!

Other notable spots you should check out: the town of Doolin and Ennystimon. Doolin is a bit touristy during peak season, so keep this in mind; however, if you are traveling in the shoulder season it's worth stopping in to grab a pint. If you are afraid of heights, there is a boat tour that will take you to the Cliffs of Moher- it's actually great!

Ennystimon is a town next to Lahinch with pubs and shops. If you are hungry, stop at the Byrnes Restaurant. When the weather cooperates grab a seat outside on the water. It's beautiful.

Not hungry but looking for a pint? Check out Eugene's in the center of town. I actually grabbed some drinks here after my wedding ceremony prior to the reception held at the Byrne's Restaurant. I hope you visit the Cliffs of Moher, and when you do, stay at the Moy House!!

Tell my boss I'm not coming back: Bermuda

Planning my trip to Bermuda was a lot of fun: looking at the photos, scoping out where to stay and obviously the anticipation. .. but the real fun part happened when I actually got to take the trip!

I was overwhelmed by how beautiful Bermuda is and also how convenient it is to get to from New York. It's only an hour and 30 minutes from Newark, so going for a long weekend is totally doable.

The best time to go is May-September. Keep in mind, September and October can be the best time to go, but it is also Hurricane Season: so it may be a last minute trip based on weather patterns.

The first night was spent in Hamilton at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. They had a gorgeous infinity pool overlooking the harbor. They've recently opened a great new bar and restaurant called Marcus'. If you plan to come to Bermuda for business, you may stay in Hamilton for the convenience and if so there are a few nice spots in town.

Restaurants to try: Harry's, Pickled Onion, Swizzle Inn, Red Steakhouse

We stayed on the other side of the island the last few nights and it was spectacular. If you know someone who is a member at the Coral Beach Club, I highly recommend having them vouch for you to stay. It's understated beauty. Nothing is over the top, but everything is beautiful. This is the spot if you play tennis as well. They have two levels of courts, so bring your tennis whites! If you don't know a member, don't fret: the Elbow Beach Club is right next door.

If you have the chance, eat at the Long Tail restaurant at Coral Beach Club. You will have fabulous views of the turquoise ocean. Wear a classic Bermudian Navy Blazer with slacks and you will be good to go.

When you are in Bermuda, do not miss Horseshoe Bay Beach! The fine, pink sand is breathtaking. I recommend climbing to the top of the cliff. There are two peaks, and it is visually worth walking up the the peak of both. You will have a great birds eye view of the beach and great photo op. To make things easy as well, there is a Fairmont Southampton close by.

After, take a stroll to the other end of the beach, you will see plenty of caves and hidden gems. Make sure to look closely at the sand to witness the "pink coral" blended in, creating a pink tint to the sand.

There are several gorgeous beaches to check out, but depending on the length of your trip: Horseshoe Bay is a must. Just make sure to avoid the Man o' War Jellyfish: they hurt like crazy.

Other things to check out are the Crystal and Fantasy Caves, located 6 minutes from the airport. The tour takes about 30 minutes each, you can opt to just see one as well. They were discovered 100 years ago by two teenage boys playing cricket. They jumped into the caves while exploring and witnessed this amazing natural phenomenon. The water from above crystalizes in the caves creating long, protruding points from the top of the cave. What is even more fascinating, is that it takes 100 years to grow one inch. *(Recommend if it's a cloudy day or on your way to the airport)

Bermuda will be hosting America's Cup in 2017, so if you are big into sailing this might be a great chance to experience it! There are several golf courses in Bermuda, but I've been told Mid Ocean Club and Tucker's Point Golf Club are great.

Keep in mind, Bermuda is a bit dressier: so boys make sure to pack slacks, Bermuda shorts, and a blazer. Ladies, think floral and a bit more conservative attire. If you forget; however, don't worry too much, there are a few stores in town selling blazers and Bermuda shorts!

Like always, enjoy yourself and take lots of photos! (You can always delete photos, but its hard to go back in time and take more!)... OH, and make sure to enjoy the turquoise waters and pink beaches!

Montana Angler, Fly Fishing Down the River

A trip of a lifetime. Floating down Yellowstone River fly-fishing and camping riverside in beautiful Montana for 5 days with Montana Angler. *They are the best-knowledge wise and skill wise. I highly recommend.

We flew to Bozeman and spent the first night exploring the town, excited to be picked up in the early am to start our 5 day fishing adventure. We had a few guides, and a few more chef's heading our way for the week of camping and fishing.

Me, a beginner to fly-fishing, needed to be pulled aside and taught what to do. Luckily, I had beginners luck, and caught on über quickly! The first day was spent hiking through this gorgeous boulder river and headed upstream until we caught a bit of still water.

The first day out, we actually drove to a spot because there had been a storm at the start of the Yellowstone River, so we needed to wait for the muck to disappear for visibility. We hiked through a few boulder's to reach our private waters.

Yes, this was a view we saw quite frequently. Breathtaking.

After Day 1 of a successful fishing trip, we hiked back down to our camping site. This would be the last day with a vehicle. Going forward, we would be on our little zodiac-type boats and float down the river, where we would camp along the river.

On the drive into the camp site, we heard rustling and movement to our left. To no shock to our guides, it was a Grizzly Bear sunning himself on the boulder. I quickly ran out of the truck to snap a photo, but unfortunately he scurried back into a cave. For the rest of the trip, every rustling I heard: I thought bear.. but to my disappointment, I didn't see another one. Although, thats not to say we didn't see wildlife: floating down the river to Yellowstone National Park--we saw wildlife galore.

Day 2, Ready to float down the river for 5 days. We headed towards our starting point along the Yellowstone River and launched our two boats in. We had three people in our party with two boats and two different guides.

Matt, who I chose to ride with for the majority, would tell me where to throw my line (generally, near the rocks.. where the fish tend to hide in the calmer waters.) Call it beginner's luck...or maybe Matt's skill, he would say "Hook" and then I would pull straight up and try to Rip a Lip. 7/10 times, I would catch the fish. I blame the 3/10 on myself for not pulling up fast enough. This worked to my benefit, as we made bets daily... Most Fish Caught, Different Species Caught, and the Biggest Fish Caught... most days I won... Not that I'm bragging... but.....

For 5 Gorgeous days of fishing and camping... Oh and enjoying amazing food day and night prepared by our chefs, our float down the river came to an end. I cannot tell you enough how amazing the experience Montana Angler provided. It was the most luxurious camping trip I've ever taken. The camp sites were put up and taken down for us, food cooked daily, bar provided, and the fishing guides were the best I've ever seen. They know the ins-and-outs of all the different locations. If you are heading on a Fly Fishing trip-- Go To Them!! Our next trip will be a 5 Day Smith River Expedition and we cannot wait!

Just when you thought they couldn't be more amazing... they brought us to Holly's Road Kill Saloon, where we got to shoot some pool, grab some drinks... and kiss the queen~

To end our trip: we headed to Yellowstone National Park and Big Sky!!

Montana Angler dropped us off at our last spot: Yellowstone River Lodge. To keep the theme of the week going... we thought staying by the river one last night was a must... ha! I'm Kidding, but we actually did....this time in a hotel! It was a great spot with an amazing restaurant and even more gorgeous scenery.

When you see a boiling river... you need to ditch your clothes and hop in! Enjoy nature and the beauty that surrounds you. It's simply breathtaking.. and relaxing!

Now, the Yellowstone National Park is filled with beauty. I suggest you go. Stop when you see something gorgeous and unpredictable! Make no agenda. Just enjoy the beauty and grab lunch at the Old Faithful Inn Dining Room.

Case and Point: the little bison below chose to sit down in the middle of the road, in front of a car. We had no choice but to watch and laugh.

The geothermal areas of Yellowstone include several geyser basins in Yellowstone National Park as well as other geothermal features such as hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles. They are also incredibly gorgeous... but smell a bit. They are located in numerous spots around Yellowstone, we hopped out of the car for most of them!

The photos speak for themselves: Beautiful. If you love the outdoors and nature.... or things that are beautiful... I highly suggest visiting this part of the world. Writing this blog, reminded me of the simpler things in life and how beautiful Montana is. Which is why it triggered our desire to push fast forward on our expedition down the Smith River!

But.. don't take my word on it.. Go see it for yourself!

Destination D.C.

Washington D.C. is one of my favorite towns. Beautiful architecture, clean, close proximity to Georgetown, and a fabulous running spot. My first few trips to D.C. were spent running the Mall, then to Arlington National Cemetery, out to the monuments and circling back around the White House. I was trying to gauge where everything was and thought this was the best way to do it. I was right!

Grab your camera and walk- walk everywhere, you won't believe how much exercise you get. Walking will also lead you to the all the other buildings not on your list of to-dos. The history and beauty of this city is extraordinary. D.C. is a weekend trip-2 to 3 days top, I like to look at long weekends to come and visit.

Museums: *Fun Fact, if you are looking to get your money's worth--check out the Smithsonian Museums; most of them are free and opened daily except December 25!

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum:
International Spy Museum: This is right near China Town, so maybe plan to grab dinner after going. My favorite part is the Evil Villain quiz: Shows you how you rack up amongst Bond Villains.

Monuments & Musts:

The White House: You must see the White House from both the front and the back! From the front it is gorgeous, from the back it is WOW! You can continue to walk from the White House to the National Mall.

United States Capitol: When standing on the opposite end of the boulevard, you will see the Washinton Monument perfectly centered between the Capitol Building.

National Mall: This is a 2 mile, tree-lined boulevard with monuments and memorials. Consisting of The Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Jr, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Also included Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, The National World War II Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial.

Veteran's Day 2014, Heading towards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

There are obviously many great times of year to visit DC. It is a walking city, so pay attention to the weather. In the spring, you enjoy the beautiful Cherry Blossoms, and in the fall, if you plan accordingly, Veteran's Day is a great time to be here.

Hotels:

Intercontinental The Willard: Extravagant entryway with high ceilings, and ornate detailing. You will think of a different time. This hotel is a 6 minute walk to the White House, 0.9 miles to the National Mall, and 2 miles from the Lincoln Memorial. Do enjoy a cocktail at the Round Robin & Scotch Bar, which remains a lively meeting place.
Watergate: Newly renovated iconic riverfront hotel with a luxurious rooftop bar.
W Hotel: Modern interior, located next to the Willard just blocks away from the White House. Cosmopolitan lobby bar with a great rooftop bar: POV.
Four Seasons: 5 star, 5 diamond luxury hotel nestled in Georgetown. Unparalleled service as you can expect with the Four Seasons. OfferingBourbon Steak, Seasons, and the ENO Wine Bar restaurants on site.

Washington D.C. can be a pretty pricey place to stay, so I suggest looking at where you can use or earn points. I've stayed at even the Hilton Garden Inn downtown once, because there was a huge convention in town, and it was fine. Other notable hotels to mention: The Hay-Adams & The Jefferson.

Bars:

POV rooftop bar at the W Hotel has a fantastic view of the White House, just make sure to be dressed up a bit-not super fancy, but smart casual.
Rí Rá Irish Pub in Georgetown is a fun spot to drop into after some shopping or to catch a football game.
Along this street there are plenty of fun pubs to stop into. I just love my Irish Pubs!
Round Robin & Scotch Bar, as mentioned earlier, located in the Willard Hotel. (Intercontinental)

Restaurants:

Café Milano: Spent my first anniversary at this Italian Restaurant. For a lively atmosphere, I recommend the downstairs, but for a romantic night out head upstairs.
Jardenea: High-end American Menu, located at the Melrose Georgetown Hotel.
Old Ebbitt Grill: This is an iconic tavern with an American menu. Yes, this is a bit of a tourist trap, but it's also kind of a must--plan on grabbing a bite before or after your visit to the White House. *If you go next door, you can get your picture taken in the "Oval Office" it's pretty fun if you like to goof-off.. I don't. I'm super serious.
In DC Proper head to China Town, maybe even catch a Washington Capitals game!
Sushi: Sushi Capitol, Sushi Taro, and Kotobuki (this is a bit of a drive, on the 2nd floor)
Rose's Luxury & Pineapple and Pearls, new hot spot by chef Aaron Silverman.

Brunch Extras: You must go to Georgetown. It's such a fun, vibrant town with shops, restaurants, and pubs. Favorite outdoor brunch area is Sequoia, but there are several restaurants in that area, and from there you can hit up some shopping.

I hope you enjoy D.C. as much as I do. It's a very active, healthy and naturally beautiful town. Enjoy the outdoors, take lots of photos, and learn about the history of our great country!

Block Island, A Slice of Heaven

With the summer coming up, I’m going to dedicate a few extra posts to the gorgeous East Coast! I am biased-since i’m a girl from the 603, but there is no better place in the world to visit in the summer than New England.

Kick back, enjoy the ocean, cookouts, and weekend getaways to Cape Cod, Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, or the Hamptons. Growing up, the Cape was my love. A very big love. I enjoyed day trips to the Vineyard and was lucky enough to have good friends in Edgartown-which might be one of my favorite spots and I highly recommend.

My husband loves Block Island, and I am now fortunate enough to vacation here in the summer. As i’ve mentioned, in my “About Me” section, we have two maltipoos—They LOVE BLOCK ISLAND.

If you are looking to disconnect from the world, this is your spot. Unlike many different vacation destinations that have become over populated and built up—this is the opposite. You can either take a 10 minute flight from Westerly, RI or Cape Air (via Hyannis) or you can take a ferry from Pt. Judith, Newport, or Fall River. In the summer, having the option to go to Montauk as well. Just like Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, there is a high speed and traditional speed ferry. Dogs are allowed on all modes of transit FYI!

To protect the land on Block Island, they have made it so your house must only be 4% of your land. So, think Ireland in the states. From any house on the island, you see land… not into your neighbor's house. Green grass, stone walls, blue ocean, blue skies… it's a Slice of Heaven! Block Island is the perfect relaxing island. The small airport does not allow private jets— which means, we don’t get the crazy.. in your face money and also no golf courses.

Am I painting a picture?—it’s perfection. Very low key: the opposite of a pretentious spot. The Nature Conservatory added Block Island to its list of "The Last Great Places"; the list only consists of 12 places in the Western Hemisphere. About 40 percent of the island is set aside for conservation.

If you don’t have a car on the island, you can easily bike the whole island without an issue. The Island is only 9.734 sq miles, located 14 miles east of Montauk Point and 13 miles south of Rhode Island mainland. However, if you are looking to rent a jeep or moped, that is readily available right off the ferry.

Block Island is a very family friendly island—actually it’s also a very friendly dog island. Dogs are allowed on the beaches here.. yes, you read that correctly.... The WHOLE family (even our non human friends) are welcome to the beach.

What to do: Besides enjoy the natural beauty of the island?!

Walk the trail at Mohegan Bluffs: You can find this by looking for the Southeast Lighthouse.

Block Island Southeast Lighthouse: This is a fun spot to bike to, but you can get here by all means of transportation: moped, driving, taxi, biking, or walking.

Block Island North Lighthouse: If you come out here, there will be a little slushie station! Also, at some points you can see seals off the point.

Rodman’s Hollow Trail: Great walking trail on the way to the west side of the island. Feel free to bring dogs, but there are a few spots that you may want a leash for: cliffs-lookouts.
Walk the Clayhead Trail: This is towards the north part of the island near Mansion Beach. Nice walking trail with beautiful cliff views down to the ocean. These are the cliffs you see when arriving by ferry on the right hand side.

Clamming: I would recommend going to Andy's Way, but make sure you have your clamming license which you can get right next to the OAR. This is also a good location for kayaking and kite surfing.
Bonfire: This is a great spot to enjoy one on the beach with friends at night. You can go to the fire station and get a permit.

Pet Feeding Farm: This is right next to the Manisses Hotel, there are lots of animals to pet and feed. Fun activity for the kids.

Surfing : Depending on the breeze, you can catch waves on the East side and South side. There are shops on the island to rent surf boards and paddle boards! Diamond Blue Surf Shop
Downtown: all sorts of shops, candy stores, ice cream. If you are looking for a theater, you are in luck. The downtown area has an old theater that changes movies every night.

Beaches: Well, because it's summer and that is what we do!!

Scotch Beach: A little further up the road from State Beach
Vail Beach: Southeast side of the island, right near the painted rock. *The painted rocks changes color (sometimes daily) Anyone can stop by and paint the rock.
Mansion Beach: This is located near Clayhead walking trail. Might be the more difficult beaches to get to without a car distance wise, but like I said, the island is only 9.347 sq. miles.

State: Short walk from town, located across from Beachhead restaurant.
Coast Guard Beach: Great spot for kids and people learning to fish on land. This is where you see the boats coming in and out.

My Favorite Restaurants:

The Oar: This restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating overlooking Great Salt Pond, great place to grab a cocktail or some seafood and watch the boats come in and out. The restaurant is covered in Oars made by all the customers. This is the one-need-to-visit spot.
Springhouse: One of the best views of the Ocean. located on a slight incline with seating all overlooking the ocean as well. I recommend coming here for a cocktail on the lawn right before sunset.

Beachhead: Across the Street from State Beach. Great views of the Ocean with a great sunset on the backside of the restaurant. You can enjoy cocktails and a great menu.
Dead Eye Dick’s: If you are looking for a lobster roll, especially a hot-buttered one, this is your spot! This is located right near Payne's Dock.

Manisses Hotel & Restaurant: This is my favorite finer-dining experience on the island. If you want a romantic night out--the menu is great and the setting is a bit more intimate.

Easy Breakfast Spots:

Payne’s Dock: You must get the killer donuts. They are freshly made for you as you wait. Honestly, I’m not a donut eater… these donuts are deadly and delish! Also, this is a great option to bring home to your family to save on eating out costs.
Bethany’s Airport Diner: Diner at the airport (just like the name suggests) but its great for breakfast, located in the center of the island, so based on where you are staying on island this may be a good choice.
Rebecca’s: Two locations, one in town and the other at Payne's Dock. This is a great take-out option. Think Clam rolls, chicken fingers, wraps.. etc! It's a great menu for lunch. Also opened for breakfast.
National Hotel: Located right in the center of town. You can sit on the front deck and watch the ferry come to dock, or sit on the back with your pup. This is a great option both because of location and food options.
Surf Hotel: Right downtown with views to town and also State Beach. You have the feeling of outdoor seating even when the clear shades are down (which are lifted when the weather is clear.) The back side bar is a great spot for cocktails after a day at the beach.

Late Night Spots:

Captain Nick’s : Right next door to Poor People's Pub. Live music at night with lots of dancing.
Poor People’s Pub: Might be a fun spot to watch a sports game, it's more low key. You can play bags outside on the lawn.
Yellow Kitten’s: Located right near town, great late night dancing. A fun spot to let loose.
Ballards: Probably the most wild spot on the island. People sometimes just take the ferry over for the day and enjoy live bands and day drinking.
Club Soda: Social Spot to grab drinks.

If you are looking to relax and take advantage of all that beauty nature has to offer, I highly recommend Block Island. You will not find a place better fit for a family or even a couples retreat.

You had me at Vacation, Bermuda Baby!

Planning a trip to somewhere I've never been. This will actually be fun because I can walk you through how I plan a trip. For all of us living in the Northern climate, I know we are all thinking the same thing. When is it going to be warm, and if its not going to come any time soon, where can I take a getaway?

This might be because I'm from the East Coast, but I've always saved vacation days for the summer, because the East Coast has the best summers on the ocean. I used to be in the habit of giving up one or two days of vacation days to have long weekends-but it would be criminal of me to waste summer vacation time off for an escape before then.

You will notice, I like to take long weekends or 5 day trips through November to May, then I take longer trips in the summer. I pull up a a calendar of the year and map out all the holidays creating long weekends and build those up to make a longer trip without using vacation days.

Itinerary: Bermuda in the end of April--Perfect! Thursday-Sunday Long Weekend, plus a day getaway! Just what I will need by April! To ensure I don't waste a day of travel from Chicago, I've made it so I'm flying from NYC, and will spend days on either end in the city.

Where to Stay:

After looking at Conde nast Traveler, Travel & Leisure, and Tablet, I've nailed down some places that seem to be trending hotels. Now, if you are looking for the best deal, I recommend Kayak-which will search for you to find the lowest price, or even Trip Advisor.

I prefer boutique hotels, but I also search for the highest quality hotels, then I decipher based on my budget for the trip and decide what I'm going to spend. This is why I rely on magazines like Conde nast Traveler, Travel & Leisure, and Departures. I trust their insight and this is why I use them and the site Tablet (focuses on luxury boutiques) to start my research. It's always good to find inspiration! I follow them on instagram as well, always giving me trip ideas on new desitinations

Why Bermuda?

This is an easy trip from the East Coast. Protected beaches from the Coral Reef, Pink Sand Beaches, and a caribbean like blue ocean escape. Seems perfect. I haven't been, so there isn't a better time to check it out. Plus the Beach Boys have a song about it.. how bad could it be...

What to do:

Snorkel, Swim, Golf, Sail, Horseback Ride along the beach, Rent a Party Boat in the Harbor, Scooter around the island, enjoy the Crystal & Fantasy Caves... most importantly, enjoy a Dark & Stormy overlooking the caribbean blue-like waters.

The island is surrounded by a coral reef which protects the beaches, creating a very calm snorkeling experience.

What to pack:

Yes, you may think this is a funny factor. It's an island right? Well, it is; however, this is a dressier island. Think Bermuda Shorts, colorful shorts for men, that is where the term comes from.

I always want to make sure when I travel, I'm dressed respectful I don't want to be "that American slob" in yoga pants and sneakers-- I would stick out like a sore thumb. On the other end of the spectrum, I don't want to look like I tried too hard and end up being over dressed. I take pride in my appearance and I promise you I'm treated better because i'm not slacking around in gym clothes. *I've actually spoken to many people in the service industry who will admit to this.

What you will want to pack: More conservative bathing suits and cover-ups. This is probably not the island you want to show up in short-shorts and mid-drift showing tops.

Not necessarily formal, but more cleaned up. *Think golf attire. In the cooler months, bring sweaters and rain gear in case of a storm. When unsure of the weather, focus on layers. This will also help with your suitcase weight and not having to overpack. Ladies-a cute dress with a cardigan. Gentleman, think linen or khaki pants (shorts) with a collared shirt and a sport coat.

I will be there in a few weeks and will be able to tell you exactly what I've experience. ie. dining, hotels, excursions in case you want to take a trip for yourself.

Get excited! It's officially Spring and time to escape the cold! I will be posting a few Spring Getaway ideas in the upcoming week.

Just the Right amount of Wrong

I'm sure what you want to read about after recovering from the weekend and St. Patrick's Day is further debauchery in Vegas. Luckily for you, thats exactly what i'm going to do.

Vegas is a different animal all together: You don't need to be in Vegas longer than 3 days. What seems appealing Day 1, seems draining Day 4. Believe me, I've put in the time!

In the next few weeks, I will be back in Vegas and this will mark my 12th visit to Sin City, and the 2nd time in the past month ( MY POOR BODY) but don't let me fool you, I love Vegas. Some people can't handle Vegas... and I... kind..of understand that, but it has always agreed with me.

Throughout the years, I have had the opportunity of staying at various resorts and no matter where I stay, I'm biased to the Wynn. I always tell Scottie that I could live at the Wynn... although, I say that about everywhere I go and love. I'm a love it or hate it kinda gal. All or nothing--which has really improved my gambling game!

The strip is huge, so based on what you are looking to do in Vegas, and obviously the price, will probably help you decide.

Heading to Vegas, What are you looking to do?

Shop, Pool Party, Club, Gamble, or head to the Shows? Honestly, all of this will help determine where you should stay. If you or your hubby likes to golf there are definitely some great courses in the area. As well as helicopter tours to the Grand Canyon and day trips to the Hoover Dam.

For example, last trip, 3 weeks ago (cough) I went to the Britney Spears Show, don't judge me, it was fantastic, and I face planted running with excitement into the auditorium- minor detail.

The show plays at Planet Hollywood, which is across from the Cosmopolitan and Aria. It didn't make sense to stay on the complete other end of the strip when everything I had planned was elsewhere, so we stayed at Aria.

Aria & Cosmopolitan are both clean, new resorts with a younger feel. Cosmo has some fantastic restaurants and also Marquee (night club), which coincidentally, I went to the opening of.. back in my single-lady days.

Few favorite restaurants in Cosmo: STK, Blue Ribbon Sushi, and Scarpetta. Blue Ribbon is my favorite in Soho.. and I definitely ate here 3 times in a 5 day time span... oops! Before your reservation, make sure to grab a drink at the Chandelier Bar. For a lunch time spot, I recommend Todd English Pub at Aria.

Now, if you are staying on this end of the strip, make sure and walk to the Bellagio and catch the water show. It generally goes on every 30 minutes. For a first timer, spend a day walking the strip. Literally, just plan on walking through the resorts and checking everything out. You will find some of the best people watching.. maybe ever.

Speaking of the Bellagio, if you walk through, you will most likely get picked up by a club promoter and offered two free drink tickets to The Bank. This is kind of an older scene, but if you are looking to get drinks it's pretty fun. Plus, like everything in life, it's only as fun as you make it.

Venetian & Palazzo: I have stayed at both and honestly, they are on par with the Wynn/Encore. I loved my room... and my very extravagant bathroom. hehe! Literally it is the size of the room. But, all in all great experience.

Ok, so lets be honest. Some of us may never go to Venice...scratch that, even Italy, but the Venetian does a pretty amazing job recreating the feel of old Italy. (If you want to do a world tour, there is even a Paris Resort...complete with Eiffel Tower.)

The Venetian is complete with a gondola that romantically glides through the resort...think: Serenade your girlfriend.... last time, we saw a couple get engaged.

The Wynn & Encore: Style, Luxury, & arguably the best Nightlife offerings on the strip... Umm.. Sign me UP! As you know, The Wynn is my favorite resort for multiple reasons. The Wynn does not skimp on any aspect; luxury gambling scene, restaurants, shows and shopping are all top tier. You will not find better quality or experience than from the Wynn.

One of my favorite perks to the Wynn is the pool scene, but not for the obvious reason you are thinking. Yes, of course I spend my days by the pool, but the Wynn opens gambling tables up by the pool.

When I don't want to leave the pool during the day, I can still grab a drink and play a few hands of blackjack or even test my luck with craps.

If you don't get the chance to stay at the Wynn or Encore, I highly suggest a visit. The attention to detail is on point. Even the smallest spaces are decorated incredibly. The flower Merry-Go-Round for example and the entranceway with flowers!

Other Resorts: Now, there are several resorts to try and based on your budget and like I mentioned earlier-shows or experiences which is how I recommend choosing your spot. I have stayed at the Palms & Rio which are both slightly off strip but have their upsides as well. I would recommend on a first visit staying right on the strip--more convenient. *Travel Tip for Club Seekers: if you are looking to go to a night club or even Pool Party: ex. Encore Beach Club, you will have the best luck if you reach out to them via: Twitter, Instagram, or if you look fabulous walking down the strip. Sorry boys, this may not include you, unless there are more girls than boys in your party. But, it's worth the try.

*Fun Fact, my mom bought 4 tickets to Elton John, day of show ($500 a piece tickets for $100 a piece) and they ended up on stage with him. Experience of a lifetime.

Welcome to Travali Lux, my name is Ali and i'm here to introduce you to my travels and try to give some pointers I've picked up along the way.

Starting will take some time, so please be patient (i'm not patient at all.. so I understand) I've started some destination pages I've traveled to and will continue to add. What I want to accomplish today is introduce myself and give you some advice on traveling before you take too many adventures.

1. TSA: You know when you are waiting in the long security line, lets just say OHARE, and you are having an anxiety attack because you went out the night before, hit snooze, and now waiting in a line that looks like ...hmm... an hour long... and you are cutting it pretty close. (Not that this has happened to me) But then out of the corner of your eye, you see people going through the non-existent line, straight through security.. Yeah, that is TSA. AND YOU NEED IT.

This will also save you hours of lines coming back into the states for customs. I'm telling you, you CANNOT be an avid traveler with TSA. Here is the site to get started: http://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry/how-apply

2. Frequent Flyer Miles: I fly United, mainly because my hubby is a travel guru and gets the royal treatment through them. My status with United provides me with complimentary upgrades and I accrue 8x the miles more than not having it.

Scott, on the other hand, receives global upgrades, domestic upgrades, and accrues 11x the miles.. Believe me, it adds up. United has a hub in Chicago, which is why we fly United. You need to find an airline you like and provides a lot of flights through your airport of choice. If you prefer to buy the cheapest flight regardless of airline, then at least use a card that will help get flights with points.

3. Loyalty Programs with Hotels: If you travel for work, get into the habit of signing up for hotel loyalty programs, so you can accrue points and also achieve status. Whoever says status doesn't matter, hasn't had status. It pays to be loyal.

Being upgraded, Early Check-in, Late Check-out, Free Weekend Nights, the perks continue. We have Ambassador Status-Spire Elite through IHG (Intercontinental) and to the extent, we are offered free mini-bar during our stays.. yes, refilled every day. Take advantage. It's the smart way to travel, why not get the most out it. You will find, I'm all about accruing points... AMC movies, Lettuce Entertain You, Open Table etc. If there is a loyalty program, I'm enrolled.

4. Credit Cards with Travel Perks: If you are in the market for a card, find one with good travel perks. We are an American Express family and also use Chase Mileage Plus (United).

Will there be better restaurants & hotels than the ones I'm suggesting? Yes, I'm sure, but I'm here to provide you with my experiences and tips through word of mouth.

Some trips I take will be a bit more lavish, some not so much, but this is what I like. This is life. Not every trip is going to be your honeymoon, if it is for you--hats off to you, but I need to prioritize trips and spending, so travel doesn't negatively impact my savings account and future planning.
